About Turon Gates
An off-grid wilderness retreat where nature, comfort, and true escape come together.
We grew up here
Nurtured by Nature
Our parents, Soren and Sonia Lunoe discovered Turon Gates on a camping trip in 1972. They loved it so much it became their favourite escape. Their dream was to create a bush retreat close enough to get away for a few days but far enough to leave city stress behind. And as the Lunoe clan grew, so did Turon Gates.
Each new cabin location was carefully selected to afford complete privacy and stunning views over the rolling countryside or flowing river. And we steadily added and upgraded our camping amenities to take the rough out of ‘roughing it’.
Turon Gates is now managed by Soren and Sonia’s son Michael Lunoe, and his wife Alex. But you’ll often find a few of us Lunoes here. We’re a friendly bunch so you’re welcome to drop by the Manager’s Cottage for a cappuccino or glass of wine. But if it’s solitude you’re after, the nice thing about Turon Gates is that you need never see anyone. It’s totally up to you.
While our River Cabins, Mountain Lodges and Glamping Tents now have WIFI, mobile reception is still patchy at Turon Gate – and that’s just the way we like it.
The degree to which you immerse yourself in nature is up to you – with a choice of camping to cabins. But the benefits of escaping to nature are, well, inescapable.
You’ll feel better just by being here.

Carbon Capture & Regeneration
Of the 6,000 acres where our cabins and accommodations are located, around 2,000 acres were historically cleared for farming. Today, this land is undergoing a deliberate process of natural regeneration, with tens of thousands of native trees and shrubs re-emerging after recent rainfall. This rewilding process plays a critical role in carbon sequestration, contributing to biodiversity, soil health, and long-term carbon capture that helps offset unavoidable Scope 3 emissions.
