Sorry, the property does not accept or keep cash onsite. We do not accept cash for purchases on site.

What if I am bringing more than 1 car?

Each vehicle must be booked to a campsite with a maximum of 5 people to a site

  • 2 cars = 2 sites
  • 7 people = 2 sites

What should I bring?

Food & Drink: Remember to bring ice, we do not sell ice at the property.

  • Marshmallows for roasting on the fire
  • Hot chocolate

Clothing: We suggest relaxed country clothes. We are in the mountains so it is generally 3 to 5 degrees Celsius cooler than Sydney. Bring warm clothes in winter and a light jacket or jumper even in the warmer months as it cools down at night. In winter it can even snow at times!
During the summer remember to bring:

  • Swim wear
  • Thongs
  • River shoes

Toiletries: The amenities have hand soap for washing your hands, do remember to bring soap / body wash along with your other toiletries.

Oher items: Remember to bring sunscreen & insect repellant when enjoying the outdoors!

  • Matches / lighter / fire lighters
  • Torch (please be mindful not to shine your torches / headlamps into peoples sites / tents or swags
  • Binoculars for stargazing & bird/wildlife watching
  • Picnic rugs / blankets
  • Water toys / inflatable floating toys,
  • Fishing gear (during fishing season)
  • Beach towels

Can I bring my caravan / trailer?

Yes, the vehicle towing must be a 4WD. Towed items may not exceed 21ft / 7m. We do not have the facility at Turon Gates to empty your refuse which must be taken with you when you leave Turon Gates. This is very important as the council has informed us that the chemicals in your system do not meet with their approval for country septic systems. The chemicals can flow into the river and cause an environmental problem. It is very important you adhere to this rule.

Towable items must be added to your booking and paid for as an add-on, please be sure to select this option and add to cart when booking online or let your friendly operator know when you book over the phone.
You do not need to book an extra site for towed items.

If you do have a campervan, caravan or trailer, you must have a 4WD vehicle for control, our camping ground is down in a valley and there is a steep descent in places to get to it. On exit, your vehicle needs to be strong enough to pull up a steep hill.

Why do I need a 4WD to tow my caravan / trailer?

Our campground is located by the river at the bottom of the valley. The road leading to the camprgound is steep in sections as it winds down the hill, traction may be impacted under when towing, unless using a 4WD. We do not recommend towing trailers / caravans in 2WD.

Where do I go when I arrive? / How do I check in?

There is no need to see the manager or caretaker when you arrive. Please head straight to the campground.
Our team will pop through and check you in using your vehicle registation number provided. As such please ensure you provide the correct registation details.

We are a group, can we be placed together?

You can make group bookings online on our website and choose as many sites as you like. There are no allocated sites. You will be able to camp together as a group as you choose your own camping area within the campground on arrival. People in groups usually arrange for a few people to get there early and secure a spot big enough for the group. Please keep in mind there are other people wishing to use the campground :)

Can I get a powered site?

Turon Gates offers a rustic bush camp experience but with great amenities! We do not offer powered sites, but if you need electricity to pump up a mattress or charge mobile phones etc, there are some covered electricity points on the side of the building near the entrance to the ladies bathroom.

What amenities do you have?

“Free hot showers, free use of power at the amenities building near the entrance to the ladies bathroom, garbage bins & campfires are permitted unless there is a total fire ban. You can also purchase firewood & wine from our onsite team or enjoy some of fun activities we have at Turon Gates; like horse-riding, canoeing and gold panning.

Remember to book for horse-riding or canoeiing in advance so you don’t miss out!”

Are there any BBQ’s?

Most guests bring a grill/hotplate on legs and cook over their own campfires. Cooking over a wood fire makes everything taste delicious! We do not supply gas BBQ’s. If there is a fireban, you will not be able to cook on open fire and will need to bring your own portable BBQ/hotplate/burner.

Do you allow fires? Can I hire a firepit?

“Unless there is a fire ban, Turon Gates permits fires year-round. Just remember, no bon-fires. We do not offer fire pits, we encourage our guests to use one of the many rock formed firepits around the campground or bring your own portable firepit. Your fire must be completely extinguished before you go to sleep or leave the area. Never leave a fire unattended.

During total fire bans and windy weather conditions, fires are absolutely forbidden and duringthese times you must cook on gas stove or burner.”

Can I bring my pet?

We are dog friendly here at Turon Gates, and our furry guests love it here! To keep pets and people happy, keep in mind these friendly tips:

  • Please do clean up your dog’s droppings.
  • Please do keep them under control – remember there are kangaroos and other wildlife. Your pet could be injured or cause injury during a wildlife encounter.
  • Dogs must be tethered on a rope or on a leash in the campground at all times so they do not wander into other campsites.

If there is a possibility they might snap at a youngster or another dog who comes up to say hello, then you should either not bring them or put a muzzle on them for safety for everyone involved.

How busy will it get?

Do expect it to be busy at Anzac, Australia Day, Easter and October long weekends and during the Xmas period between Xmas day and Jan 7.

If you prefer a more quiet experience, the best time to come is mid-week during school term. Second best time is on the weekend during school term.

Is firewood and kindling available? Can I bring a chainsaw?

Bagged firewood is available for sale at the Manager’s Cabin and costs $20 for 20kg. Chainsaws may not be used in campground due to the noise. You may gather fallen braches.

Large fallen trees may not be taken/chopped up as they provide homes for wildlife. You may not chop down trees at Turon Gates.

Is there mobile phone reception or wifi available?

There is no mobile reception at Turon Gates, nor is there wifi in the campground. Turon Gates is blissfully disconnected from the outside world allowing you a proper and complete break. If you need to make or receive phone calls, we are happy for you to give our landline number 02 6359 0142 for the property to your friends or family for emergencies. You are also welcome to use our landline for brief calls as you need.

There is mobile reception about 6km on the road back to Capertee for most mobile phones, depending on your provider.

What are the noise restrictions?

Sound travels and there are no walls. For the comfort of all guests, we don’t allow loud music, chainsaws, generators or drones in the campground. Please be thoughtful of other guests and if you are up past midnight, talk quietly. Likewise, if you have young children who might cry or scream in the night, it would be best if you chose a different holiday until they are older and don’t wake in the night. o music or noise is allowed after 10pm – quiet talking only. Thank you for being thoughtful of others.

Do you sell ice?

We do not sell ice at the property. It is best to get some before you arrive. The BP service station at Capertee sells ice.

Is there a shop on site?

There is no shop on site, our onsite team only sell two essentials – wood and wine!

If you need supplies, the BP service station has most essentials and even has a take away store. For beer, spirits or a pub meal you can head to the Royal Hotel at Capertee who have a small bottlemart which sells takeaway alcohol. For a larger selection there are large supermarkets Woolworths, Coles and Aldi stores at Lithgow (approx 45 mins) Mudgee (approx 1 hr drive) and Bathurst (approx 1.5 hr).

Is the water safe to drink?

Yes! Drinking water is pumped from the river and filter and UV treated. The water coming out of the taps at the amenities is safe for drinking and cooking. The water is beautiful mountain river water. Tastes delicious and is full of good minerals.

What do I do with my rubbish?

There are garbage bins provided for your use near the hayshed and amenities. Please leave all your garbage inside the bins and we will take care of it. There is no charge for rubbish removal. Unfortunately recycling is not yet available in our area – we wish there was. If you would like your botttles / plastics / paper to be recycled please take with you back to your home and dispose of there or head to the return and earn at Lithgow Plaza on your way home.

Can I tie up my dog in the campground to go horse riding / canoeing?

We love dogs at Turon Gates and want them to have the best time, it can be stressful and scary for them to be left alone without their human/s and they may react badly. It is best not to leave your dog unsupervised at any time for their safety and the safety of other. Sorry, we cannot offer to babysit pets.

Can my child stay in the campground while I go horse riding / canoeing?

Children should be supervised at all times, never leave children alone without a parent / guardian or trusted friend or family member. Sorry, we cannot offer to babysit children.

Can I leave my kids / dog in the car while I go horse riding?

No, leaving children or pets in a car is dangerous. A car’s interior can become dangerously hot in the sun, often reaching 30° to 40° Celsius higher than the outside temperature and potentially exceeding 70°C. This can happen very quickly and surfaces like the dashboard and steering wheel can get even hotter, reaching temperatures high enough to cause burns. Sorry, we cannot offer to babysit children or pets.

Someone in my group has booked a glamping tent / cabin / lodge, can we:

  • Camp next to them?
  • Hang out there and then go back to the camp ground after dinner?
  • Use their facilities?

We do not allow camping at all near the log cabins, lodges or glamping tents. If you put up a tent / swag or park your camper in any area other than the camp ground site, you will be asked to take it down / move it. Roofed accommodation areas are exclusive for those who have booked and paid for that experience, we ask those who book and pay for camping to limit themselves to the camp area only.

Cabin / lodge or glamp tent guest may join you at the campground, not vice versa.

Is there someone onsite if I need help?

There is always a staff member onsite to support or assist you. The manager & caretaker’s residences are located just before the campground.

You can call the onsite team on 02 6359 0142.

If visiting the team in person, check the wooden sign outside the manager’s residence to know who is on duty during your stay. The caretaker’s lodge is located opposite the manager’s residence, there is a “caretaker” sign located at the entrance of their driveway.

What are the Manager’s / Caretaker’s hours?

For noise complaints, dangerous situations or emergencies, please see the onsite staff immediately. Check the wooden sign outside the manager’s residence to know who is on duty during your stay. For purchases and general enquiries we kindly remind our guests to keep visits to reasonable / office hours.

How do I charge my Electric Vehicle (EV)?

If you have an electric vehicle, please do not plug it in at your tent / lodge.

Whilst we do not have a charging station, we can provide an emergency top up charge.
As we are on solar power on occasion this may need to run off a diesel generator, it is not designed to provide a full charge.
The EV emergency top up station can be used by prior arrangement with the onsite team by paying the $40 charge rate.
The top up station uses a 10A standard powerpoint connection.
It is a set 4hr timed top up and can only be used between 10am – 2pm only – bookings are essential.

Please note for a full charge the closest fill station is in Lithgow.

What are the roads like?

Our road is graded by the council for 2WD drive vehicles.

Just remember it is a bush road and care should be taken. In the country, we keep to the left hand side as much as possible, particularly when approaching a corner and you can’t see the road stretch to check for other cars driving towards you. The best advice we can give is to take it easy. Keep the speed under 50km and slower. There is lots of wildlife and cars could come from the opposite direction.

A few friendly do’s and don’ts:

  • Do bring your dog’s bedding and feeding bowls.
  • Do clean up the droppings.
  • Do keep your dog under control. Turon Gates is a big place and it might be tempting to run after a kangaroo and get so excited, that they don’t come when called. We recommend keeping them on a lead, country wildlife is very interesting to dogs and there is a possibility that your dog will run off after a kangaroo or other wild animal and may not respond as they would in a city environment. They could be injured or cause injury to wildlife.
  • Do not leave your dog unattended in the dog friendly lodges unless locked in a crate.
  • Do not let dogs up onto the beds or furniture. It is very difficult to clean off the dirt and hair from the furnishings and will incur a cleaning fee.
  • Any damage to furnishings or the lodge will need to be accounted for.

I’m planning on going horse-riding / canoeing / hiking, can I leave my dog in the cabin?

You may leave your dog unattended provided it is secured in a crate. The reason for this is that much damage has been done to cabins by dogs fretting about their owners. They are in a strange place and do not act the same as if at home. Sorry, but we cannot babysit your dog or children while you go horseriding.

We stayed in the Dreamtime safari tent at Turon Gates and it was gorgeous - luxuriously comfortable, with lots of small touches to make us feel so welcome and pampered. Horse-riding along the Turon River, followed by a deep warm bath with views out to the bush, listening to the wood-burning stove crackling, was my idea of heaven.

We absolutely loved our stay at Turon Gates. From the moment we arrived, the owners made us feel like family — so warm, welcoming and incredibly accommodating throughout our stay.
The kids had the best time exploring nature, enjoying all the outdoor activities and just being able to run free in such a beautiful, peaceful setting. It was the perfect escape from busy everyday life.
Everything about our experience was relaxing, family-friendly and memorable. We’re already looking forward to coming back again soon!

Have camped here multiple times and is still hands down the best family friendly campsite that I have been too! The amenities are clean and very well maintained and camping by the river is beautiful. We have booked again to stay at one of their lodges, and I'd like to say a big thank you to Sima and the management team for allowing us to bring extra pets for our stay. This will be a memorable birthday for both my parents and family.

Just absolutely Wooow.

Our every first time camping and being at Turon Gates as well. And every experience we had we loved every single bit of it. From being away from our four walls, and the chaos of the busy life in Sydney, to simply being outdoors and breathing the fresh air, we rarely get in Sydney. It was beyond beautiful, the amenities where clean was a big bonus for me, to amenities for washing dishes absolutely loved it. The experience my family and I had, was an understatement, we never did except what we had endured. We loved every bit of it, the people where amazing, owners were beautiful, love seeing kids play together and having a good time. The water was divine, the walk absolutely jawdropping, the hike was a dying experience LOL, but worth every step, pain, ache and experience, the view was no words "SPECTACULAR." Worth every money paid for. We did not want to live. But we will be returning back soon.

Well done team, keep up the amazing work in what youse do to keep this a remarkable experience we have endured!

We are one happy family and loved everything about it!

Love from the Kavaefiafi Family ❤️❤️❤️

Amazing stay at Stonewood their new lodge. The lodge was stunning in design and comfort. The nature there is from another world. Really appreciated Turon Gates management efforts to make the riding happen for us as we are riders. Stargazing, campfire, BBQ… unforgettable trip with my family.

Highly recommend the Stonewood Cottage for a magical experience of the Blue Mountains.

Beautiful place to see wildlife (awesome birds, kangaroos, wallaby’s, horses and goats, frogs - look super carefully for little frogs near the river) and take time away from the city! Was super peaceful ✨
The cabin is expensive compared to camping trips but worth it if sharing with someone who hates camping 😅 was comfortable yet still so much nature and lovely river to swim in 💚

Sunvale Cabin at Turon Gates is a beautiful mountain retreat. As a first-time visitor, I had an amazing experience with my sisters and will definitely be coming back again.

The peaceful setting and seeing lots of kangaroos made the stay extra special. Claudia was very helpful, and the manager Alex was thoughtful.

Highly recommend for a relaxing getaway 🌿🦘

We are visiting from the US and staying in Sydney. Turon is a refreshing and peaceful retreat just 2.5 hours from Sydney. Upon arrival were awed by the beauty and saw so many Kangaroos.
Beautiful in their natural habitat.
Our accommodations (glamping tent) was beyond all expectations. Wonderful linens, a very comfortable king bed, luxury appointments and more. A peaceful and restful nature escape. The owners, Michael and Alex are lovely!
I would give more than 5 stars if I could.
Highly recommend

Each year I book is a weekend away for our anniversary. Turon Gates delivered the romantic goods. Stayed in a glamping tent which has everything you need. The bed by far is the comfiest bed we’ve slept in forever! The two geese acted as a welcoming party and even though they’re noisy they were by far the highlight of our stay. The wildlife, the geese, the horses and chickens make it what it is. Unfortunately we had terrible weather, rained most of our stay but that didn’t matter. The fire, the serenity, the wake up calls from the kookaburras at precisely 6.17am were perfect. If you’re looking for a romantic getaway I highly recommend booking a stay

If you are looking for a secluded magical place in nature not too far from Sydney, this one should go to the top of your list!
From large and flat camping sites by the river to charming log cabins, luxury glamping tents or the incredible Sunvale house, the choice is yours, the perfection is theirs. Accommodations are spread out on an enormous wilderness area of rolling hills and forested mountains where wildlife is your only visible neighbours. Walk, hike, canoe, ride a horse, cycle or just relax, soak it in and recharge.
Thank you for a truly magical stay!

Honestly an amazing experience, the view from sunvale is absolutely stunning, both sunset and sunrise are unbelievable, the stars at night are perfect, and the lodging is honestly some of the best glamping I’ve ever seen. Totally recommend and will definitely be coming back

Room:
The room was top-notch – clean, cozy, and thoughtfully set up. The kitchen was well-organised, complete with clean cutlery and everything we needed. The electric blanket was an absolute lifesaver for the chilly winter nights – especially since I usually need at least three layers to stay warm. That said, I had a bit too much to drink on the first night and forgot to turn it on… let’s just say, lesson learned after freezing through the night!

Service:
The service was excellent. The management team sent us a detailed email before arrival, including what to bring, how the utilities work, and even the expected weather. It was incredibly helpful and showed great attention to detail. Claudia stood out – professional, responsive, and very helpful throughout our stay.

Location:
While it’s about a 3-hour drive from Sydney, the location is absolutely worth it. Peaceful, quiet, and surrounded by nature – the perfect spot to unwind and disconnect from the city buzz.

We stayed for 2 nights and honestly, it wasn’t enough – if only I could sneak in a few more days of sick leave from work!

My wife, our fur baby Mylo, and I had an absolutely wonderful time staying at River Cabin 4. The cabin was perfectly equipped with everything we needed for a cozy and comfortable stay. The scenery right outside the cabin was pure bliss — waking up to the sound of birds chirping and being surrounded by serene nature was just what we needed to unwind.

Mylo had the time of his life exploring the property, watching kangaroos, wallabies, and even some curious little goats! ???????? The hammock and BBQ setup added to the charm — chilling in the hammock with Mylo by my side was so therapeutic and rejuvenating.

A special thanks to the amazing Turon Gates team for the thoughtful complimentary extension, which made our stay even more memorable. Your warmth and hospitality truly made a difference! Kudos for creating such an unforgettable and relaxing experience. We can’t wait to return! ❤️????
